When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (source)
The victory that was won on the cross by the aforementioned declaration has been one of the most glorious moments in the history of the world. The whole plan, starting before Christ was even born from Mary, was years and years in the making.
Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (source)
This was all the preparation for what was to come. God spoke through chosen prophets so that His plan will be revealed and all those who believed would hear and rejoice. Immanuel means “God with us”, or, Jesus. How amazing is that? This is God reassuring us that He has not forgotten about us. There are many affluent and non-believers that say there is no proof that God is real and there is a Heaven, etc. Well, the fact that Jesus was born from a virgin, which was foretold in the time of Isaiah which was well before Mary was born, is PHYSICAL proof that God is VERY real. Science cannot explain that because it is well known that an egg must be fertilized by a male. Back then there was no ability to do this without a man and a woman coming together causing the woman to become pregnant. When Mary was physically ready, the angel Gabriel came to Mary and gave her the same prophecy as was foretold in the time of Isaiah (reference the aforementioned scripture).
Isaiah 53:5 – But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. (source)
This is another proof in the pudding moment. This was during the time of Isaiah before Christ came onto the scene. This was years and years before Christ was even in the picture. God was meticulously laying the foundation for our Lord and Savior. This is what it was all about. This is why we rejoice. “For God so love the world, that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”. (source)
So take this day to rejoice. As it was actually happening, people of Jesus’ time did express deep sorrow because they loved Him so much. However, knowing the fullness of the glory of that moment, each year it is a day of celebration. The reminder of our eternal victory over satan (formerly known as Lucifer). Death has no power over us. This is because of the most selfless act in the history of the world. Let us celebrate our victory today!
Until next time my brothers and sisters in Christ, God bless!
