1 Thessalonians 5:18 – give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (Source)
So many times in our lives we give thanks for so many things that seem trivial. We so thanks when someone does something nice for us. We may even say thanks when we were younger and our parents, or whoever raised us, allowed us to do something that we wanted to do. Well what about when times are tough? What are we really doing in those times of challenge? Are we running and hiding? Are we facing it? Are we flustered or angry or anything else of the like? Well what about giving thanks to God in those circumstances?
I was at a service last night where the pastor spoke about this topic and it really resonated with me. I felt God put on my heart to share this with the world. This is something that is not easy to do, but when we are able to figure out how to do it, our lives naturally change for the better. As the scripture above states, give thanks in ALL circumstances…. One would think, how can I possibly give thanks when I am down in the dumps?
When we are born again, we die. Yes I said it, we die. It is our conscious decision to allow Jesus to live and work through us. God knows all that we need before we even know ourselves. So, even when something bad occurs, it is imperative that we give thanks. We are trusting God that He will move us through to the other side of that situation. It is easy to thank God when things are going great isn’t it? Just think of how humbling and joyful it can be when we give thanks when things are going terrible.
Thanksgiving is more than just eating a big meal to make us unbutton a few buttons to feel comfortable again. It is even more than just spending time with our family. It is really about reminding ourselves what we should TRULY be thankful for. I hope each of you have a happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful time with your family!
Until next time my brothers and sisters of Christ, God bless!
